Re: We NEED more developers!

Hi,

I've been a Nexuiz player for a while but as I was busy with my own projects, never volunteered to help. I'm willing to help with client side (never done server side anything) QC programming, though I don't know C/C++, though I have read some C++ material from MSDN.

I know LUA and TorqueScript and have flirted with ASM (X86, 6502) and Objective-C. I've had a look at the QC docs and for me, it's incredibly easy to read, so if you're still looking for developers I'd be more then happy to get up to speed with the language and the codebase. I have arround 4 - 5 hours per day of free time :D

The only problem is, my Windows and OSX machines are very rarely conencted to internet, so the build process would have to be a local proceedure (manually downloads and compile)

Re: We NEED more developers!

Hi and welcome DominatorQLD! This is a free open source project, basically helping out works by looking around and just picking up stuff that you think needs to be done and that you can do. As for modelling, Nexuiz needs some new player models. There are already a few new and good ones that have been created but not yet rigged (for example: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6080). Maybe you could help out there? Of course you can also create new player models and hope someone else is rigging them.

Welcome! The easiest way to participate is just pick up stuff that needs to be done. Check out what paperclips wrote:

Re: We NEED more developers!

I haven't read but the first page, and to be honest I just found this project today and I haven't read anything but this topic, but I don't care. This looks great already.

My skills:

-Extensive experience with box modeling, rigging, animating, rendering, particles, and reactor in 3DS Max. I am also gaining FumeFX experience. I own 3DS Max 2010 and FumeFX. I also own Maya 2010. Both are full packages. My skill is increasing rapidly.

-Relatively minimal experience in writing C++, but I can read and analyze it effectively. I can read and understand game source and structure, and make simple mods. I have done a few for Jedi Knight Outcast II, which uses the Quake engine. I'm learning perl, python, and autoit. I'm also going to learn powershell but I don't think that is anything useful.

-I have good scripting ability using Quake 3 console commands. I scripted attacks in JK2, so I understand the process and calculations needed for rotation and such, thought I'm not sure of what relevance it would have here.

-I am photoshop oriented. I can create pretty much any 2D dream you can think up. I do not own a wacom tablet, however. :(

-I have slight ability to do security auditing. I have small stack/buffer overflow experience and, using the developer console, I can usually find glitches that will cause servers to crash or generate massive amounts of lag.
I have proof of concepts for this in JK2 for versions 1.02 and 3. I can also patch these glitches with research.
I can also do network auditing. Using linux tools I can search for vulnerabilities in a network. Obviously I'm referring to backtrack and metasploit. I can script fuzzers for any protocol as well, but I'm sure that's useless here.

I have a lot of free time. A LOT. Anything I need to know I can learn extremely quickly. I have never been exposed to experts in the game development field and I have mininal true experience, so I am probably not as good as I think when it comes to programming and auditing, but let's just say I know how to learn. I'm practically going to fail my senior year in high school just because I've been trying to learn these skills though, so I may or may not have my pc thefted by my parents every now and again. :)

I'm downloading nexuiz, and I'll get aquainted with him very quickly, we're going to be best friends. I love how this looks. I can't wait. This > Quake ez.

Oh, and I didn't mention I have good audio experience. Music is my thing, I can record any kind of music. I use free tools, but in reality it hardly matters. Audacity will mix at the same sampling rate and quality as pro tools, therefore I find it uncessary to purchase ridiculously expensive macintosh computers and take courses to learn how to use software that does nothing spectacular when it comes to quality. ...(If I'm wrong, please correct me. I honestly think audacity pwns programs like cubase, I love audacity and will never use another program to record my metal for the rest of my life.) Then again, I never have to use multiple inputs or do any kind of ridiculous effects or arrangements.
My equipment:
Audacity
Line 6 Spider 2 (LOL)
ESP LTD M1000
Ibanez RG7321
Korg MicroX (win. iso how to install custom samples though, why no instructions? can't figure it out, I bet it's obvious but I'm too lazy)
Lexicon Omega USB interface
Oh yea.. FL Studio XXL 8, heh. I use that for autotune, AT won't work well on audacity for some reason (that could be just me, I only see sliders and no real gui.)
The above allows me to produce virtually any kind of music easily and quickly, assuming you tell me what to play. I can write, theme, and fit my own to any specifications too I suppose.

Endrant;

:)

Re: We NEED more developers!

Due to recent developments most of the Nexuiz community has abandoned this forum and also the project (see viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6079 for the reason). You might want to contribute to the forked project on http://www.xonotic.org, where most of the Nexuiz community moved to.

Re: We NEED more developers!

Heya, i'm a .NET developer now, but I've used C++ before and use OGRE framework to produce games, so moving to QuakeC isn't so bad, I also have a colleague who is a keen C++ developer, we'd be happy to come on board, we're in the process of making our own game at the moment and we've only got a team of 6 so I know how you feel.

Send any relevant bits and pieces to info@noirenex.com and I'll look it over and let you know how much time I can commit

Hello there. Thank you for willing to help... this matters a lot, as any contributor can make a difference :)

It should be noted however that Nexuiz is being continued under a new name and web site, and it's being heavily changed and improved with this occasion. The new game is called Xonotic. See http://www.xonotic.org/ and http://dev.xonotic.org/ for more info. If you wish to contribute, that would be the place to now.
